I’ve lived in Montgomery my whole life, and I come from a hardworking, blue-collar family where doing the job right actually meant something. That stuck with me.

I spend most of my time outdoors, and over the years I’ve put everything I’ve got into learning this trade and getting better at it. I take my work seriously, and I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to building fences.

This blog is where I share what I’ve learned, what I’m seeing around Montgomery, and what homeowners should know before they start a fencing project.

If I’m putting my name on it, it’s going to be done right.

Should You Repair or Replace Your Fence After Winter?

3/11/2026

Every year around the first warm week of March, my phone starts doing the same thing. Folks all over Montgomery walk out to enjoy the first nice morning of the year, coffee in hand, and they notice something they have been ignoring since November. A gate that will not latch right. A post that leans a little more than it used to. A whole run of pickets that went gray and soft over the winter. Then they call me and ask the question I probably answer more than any other this time of year.

Do I fix this, or do I finally just replace the thing?

B-Line has been building and fixing fences here in central Alabama long enough to know that the honest answer is rarely as simple as people want it to be. But it is also not complicated once you know what to look for.

So I want to walk you through exactly how I think about it when I pull up to a house in Prattville or Pike Road and a homeowner points at their fence and says Help me out here. My goal is that by the end of this, you can look at your own fence with a better eye, and you will know whether you are looking at a quick Saturday repair or a real replacement project.
